Time flies... no pun intended, and it's already May and time to get back to the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, California for another great day of flying. As many of you know, we always seem to get a mix of hazy sun and and a lot of heat at Chino in May. Not so this year, with a late season storm trying to make its way into Southern California, we were treated to mother nature's own air conditioner with temps in the upper 60's or low 70's most of the day with clouds rolling through on the breeze. You will see from our photos that the skies were pretty gray, but it really made for a very pleasant day to take in the air show and visibility was good enough to get it all in.
Chino is always a unique show in that you will see warbirds here that you just can't see at most other air shows. For example, I don't ever remember seeing four Avengers flying in one show before, and with the only N9M Flying Wing left flying in the world today lined up next to a Focke Wolf FW 190, you know you are in for a treat. The N9M was not able to get airborne Saturday, due to a problem with the canopy coming loose, but the show went on and the fun continued throughout the day with P-51s, B-25s, P-40s and even P-38s, just to name a few.
Chino was also special for us, as you may have noticed above, for only the second time to date we are featuring a few images taken by my youngest son Luke (5 years). Luke has been very excited to get out to the airfields with dad and big bro and did a pretty good job handling an SLR camera for the first time. I think you will find he has a pretty good eye.
If you have yet to make it out to Chino for this annual event, you really should do your best to make it out next year, as always, we will have the air show dates posted right here at SlickPixels.com. Just don't forget the sunscreen, I imagine that hot sunny weather won't stay away long. Enjoy our galleries, we look forward to hearing from you or seeing you soon at an air show near you.
